Here are ten ways to improve your SERP ranking, ordered to start with the tactics most people undervalue.

1. Optimize your title tags for clicks, not just keywords.

Most SEO advice about title tags focuses on keyword placement. And yes, your target keyword should be in your title. But that’s the bare minimum.

Your title tag is the single most visible element in your search listing. It determines whether someone clicks on your result or scrolls past it to a competitor. Google’s own Navboost system — confirmed during the 2023 DOJ antitrust trial — uses click data to adjust rankings. That means your title tag doesn’t just need to be keyword-optimized. It needs to earn clicks.

Practical approaches: use numbers when relevant (“7 Ways...” performs better than “Ways...”), be specific about the value the reader will get, and front-load the most compelling information.
